The Danish Neurosurgical Society (DNKS) was founded in 1988. Before that time the danish neurosurgeons were part of the Danish Neurological Society (DNS).
There are currently 114 members of the Danish Neurosurgical Society. Of these 63 are fully trained neurosurgeons. The majority of the rest of the members are neurosurgical trainees, but the society also har company members as well as members form other specialities.
There are currently five neurosurgical units in Denmark.
