neoplasm

Neoplasm

(from Ancient Greek νεο- neo- “new” and πλάσμα plasma “formation, creation”), also commonly referred to as a tumor or tumour, is an abnormal growth of tissue.

This abnormal growth usually but not always forms a mass.

The World Health Organization classifies neoplasms into four main groups: benign neoplasms, in situ neoplasms, malignant neoplasms, and neoplasms of uncertain or unknown behavior.

A malignant neoplasm is a cancer.

Neurooncology is the study of brain, spinal cord neoplasms and peripheral nerves.
