medical treatment of Neurocysticercosis: all patients get steroids. Start anthelmintic drugs (praziquantel or albendazole) when no signs of intracranial hypertension are present.

Albendazole (Zentel®) 15 mg/kg per day divided into 2–3 doses, taken with a fatty meal to enhance absorption (same dose for pediatrics), may be given for 3 months, 1) 2) can be stopped sooner if imaging shows resolution ((Proano JV, Madrazo I, Avelar F, et al. Medical treatment for neurocysticercosis characterized by giant subarachnoid cysts. N Engl J Med. 2001; 345:879–885). More parasiticidal than praziquantel and may have fewer side effects.
