Blue wrap

Although some institutions have replaced blue sterile wrap with reusable rigid containers, blue wrap will likely always have a place in the OR.

Blue wrap” contributes up to 19% of the total waste from ORs and creates significant disposal costs 1).

According to the University of Minnesota Medical Center, blue wrap is estimated to account for 19% of OR waste and 5% of all hospital waste 2).

Blue wrap is not biodegradable, but can be melted and recycled due to its polypropelene composition 3).
