In 2017, the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) published guidelines for healthcare-associated ventriculitis treatment and meningitis treatment 1).

The most important prognostic factor is the appropriate choice of pathogen-specific antibacterial therapy:

Route is IV unless specified otherwise.

1. Streptococcus pneumoniae: Penicillin G (PCN G)

if MIC ≤ 0.06:PCNG or ampicillin,alternative:third generation cephalosporin(ceftriaxone)

if MIC ≥0.12:third generation cephalosporin (ceftriaxone) if cephalosporin resistance: vancomycin

alternative:moxifloxacin

meningitidis: PCN G

ifMIC ≤0.1 PCN G or ampicillin

if MIC ≥0.1:third generation cephalosporin (ceftriaxone) alternative: moxifloxacin, meropenem
